The deadline for submissions for the first edition of the UWCADES Journal is June30th, 2007. The journal will be published during the last week of July.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
UWCADES requires that the author be a former UWC student or staff. The purpose of this restriction is to publish articles that represent UWC ideals in their contents. However, UWCADES is prepared to consider submissions from non-UWC members, when the topic of the article is deemed relevant for our readers.
The minimum length for an article is 850 words or about 2 ½ letter-sized pages with the characteristics detailed below. The maximum length is 1,300 words, which is about 4 letter-sized pages. UWCADES accepts pieces which are longer than the maximum length, but the author is required to separate them in parts; only one part with the necessary standard will be published per issue.
Titles should not be greater than 1.5 lines and preferably smaller than a line. The first paragraph of the article will be shown in the headlines version, hence the author may want to use it as an introduction to his article.
The articles should be sent to
, in a Word document, typed in Times New Roman font, 12 point size, line spacing of 1.5 lines. It must include the name of the author and his academic degree and current occupation (if applicable). Please write in the subject line “Submission”.
JOURNAL TOPICS
The broad topic areas include anything related to economics (e.g. development, poverty, inequality, finances, trade, philosophy of economics, etc.), politics (e.g. current electoral events, nuclear negotiations, etc.) and sociology (e.g. reasons for migrations, evolution of web communities, etc.). Nonetheless, UWCADES will also accept submissions which cover other topics. For instance, a non-academic article about science could be published too, as the evolution of technology is considered an important event for the development of nations.
While articles are expected to show some specialist knowledge (e.g. readers are expected to understand what an inflation rate is), they should be written for readers who are not fully aware of all the academic concepts. Therefore, if the author chooses to include some important concepts which are not common knowledge, a short explanation in a footnote or within the article should be provided. Tables and graphs (including diagrams, photographs or other graphic material) are allowed when relevant.
